A five-person jury has been selected to represent a cross-section of perspectives on design, architecture, community, planning, sustainability and accessibility. They will choose a maximum of 3 winners, but may select additional submissions for public display, at their discretion. Cash prizes will be awarded by the jury as follows:

The Competition Sponsors and AIA Austin will display the winners and jury selections at the Center for Architecture in Austin in May of 2006. Further, all winning entries will be displayed via a virtual gallery on the competition website through 2007.
JURY
Fritz Steiner
Frederick Steiner is the dean of the School of Architecture and
Henry M. Rockwell Chair in Architecture, University of Texas at Austin. He is
a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects and an Academic Fellow
of the Urban Land Institute..Dean Steiner has worked with local, state, and
federal agencies on diverse environmental plans and designs. Currently, he chairs
the five-county Envision Central Texas Project, having served on its board of
directors and executive committee since ECT was established in 2002. In 2005,
he was on a team, selected from over 1,000 entries, to be one of five finalists
in the United Flight 93 National Memorial Competition in Pennsylvania.
Blue Delgado
Blue is the President of the Windsor Hills Neighborhood Association
that is adjacent to the Gus Garcia Park and a thirty-year resident of the area.
He is a retired Army non-commissioned officer, a building inspector for the
City of Austin, and the proud father of four grown children.
Marilyn Bostick
Marilyn is a member of the Parks and Recreation Board advising
the city council and the city manager in the development, improvement, and maintenance
of all parks and public playgrounds owned or controlled by the City. She has
also been very involved in community-building projects for people through the
Eastside Story program with the Austin Police Department.
Fred Fuller
Fred Fuller is a Landscape Architect in the City of Austin's
Parks and Recreation Department and is responsible for providing guidance on
design standards for construction within city parks. A graduate of Texas A&
M University with 15 years of experience, Fred's background in landscape design
makes him a critical member of the Gus Garcia Park project team.
Roberto Garcia
Roberto is a professional landscape designer and owner of Garcia
Design Inc in Austin since 1996. After graduating from the Harvard University
Graduate School of Design in 1988, Garcia was a manager for several architecture
firms and won multiple design awards before starting his own business doing
planning and design.
CRITERIA FOR JUDGEMENT
The Jury will be solely responsible for the selection of the top three finalists. Submissions will be assessed for their originality, creativity, appropriateness and effectiveness with which they deal with the objectives of the competition outlined in the competition section. The Jury will complete a report outlining its reasoning for selecting the winning entries. A copy of this report will be published on the web site. The decisions of the Jury are final and will not be subject to review. No appeals from entrants concerning the decision of the Jury will be permitted and no correspondence will be entered into.
EXHIBIT / PUBLICATION
The three winning teams will be asked to present their designs to the local community at an open public meeting (date/location TBD). No additional presentation materials will be REQUIRED for this presentation.
COPYRIGHT AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Competition material submitted by entrants will become the property of the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD). This organization reserves the right to reproduce any or all of the entries, in whole or in part, for archival purposes. Signing of the registration form by an entrant warrants their submitted material as original work by that entrant. Entrants retain all copyrights to the work. All submissions will be retained by PARD.
PARD reserves the right
to enter into an agreement with the entrant(s) for the further development of
any design that is to be used for the competition site
